THE ANTIQUE
1930 CHEVY

Chevrolet/General - This was the second piece of motorized apparatus ordered by the department. The 1930 Chevrolet chassis was purchased for $3600 and then delivered to General Manufacturing Company in St. Louis, Missouri where it was assembled as a fire engine. She arrived in O’Fallon on May 21, 1930 as a 250 GPM pumper with a one-hundred gallon water tank and was placed in service. She provided front line service until 1949 when she was placed in reserve status. Used sparingly in reserve, her first tour of duty ended in 1954 when she was sold to an antique car dealer. But, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, she was destined to serve OFD once again. The wonderful gentleman who purchased her, offered her back if the volunteer department would completely restore her. Restoration began in January 1971 and on May 23, 1973 she began her second tour of duty and serves to this day as a link to our past and a shining example of fire apparatus evolution. The restoration, handled completely by our volunteers, recorded 555 man hours but it has been estimated that nearly 3000 man-hours were actually expended before this beauty was reassembled.

In addition to the requirements of NFPA 1901, this truck carries the following: Vent saw, I.R. camera, battery operated reciprocating saw, Hurst “Simo Power Unit” capable of operating two tools at the same time, Hurst 42 inch spreaders, Hurst “Hard Car” cutter, Hurst combo tool, 20 and 30 inch rams, and a complement of air bags.

RETIRED ENGINE
1949 MACK

In November 1949, OFD received and placed in service the third piece of motorized apparatus. This 1949 Mack was equipped with a 750 GPM pump and a 400 gallon water tank. Although O’Fallon was a small town at the time, this fine piece of apparatus lacked very little in meeting the requirements of a large city. This engine was built by the Mack Truck Corporation of Allentown, PA and was purchased for $12,000. She served in front-line service until September 1980 when she was relegated to reserve status. She was sold to the Dania Shrine Club in 1981, ending her first tour of duty in the fire service. But just like the apparatus she replaced, this old beauty was destined to serve once again. Thanks to a Fire Prevention Week conversation between O’Fallon Mayor Gary Graham and OFD President Ken Weaver, her return was set in motion. Mayor Graham worked with the local Site Oil Facility and that company agreed to donate the funds to purchase her back from the antique fire truck collector. She came back for a second tour of duty on April 14, 1999. OFD membership paid for a cosmetic restoration and our beloved 1949 Mack proudly serves as Fire Prevention Engine One.

SQUAD 4320
2006 SPARTAN/EVI

2006 EVI heavy rescue built on a Spartan 24" raised roof Gladiator chassis. Mounted on the roof are a 30 KW hydraulic generator, a 9KW light tower with camera and a Hurst Octaflow power unit. Other features include side mounted tie-offs, custom pull-out roller guide trays, hydraulic reels supplying power to Hurst equipment mounted on both sides and the front of the truck, electric reels, Eagle fill station, and a 4-bottle cascade system. The truck also carries an array of air bags, Para-tech equipment, Petrogen torch, RIT equipment, lumber, various rescue tools and a command center.

In addition to the requirements of NFPA 1901, this truck carries the following: Ladder mounted rope rescue system, vent saws, I.R. camera, battery operated reciprocating saw, Hurst Power Unit, Hurst 42 inch spreaders, Hurst “Hard Car” cutter, Hurst 30 and 60 inch rams, complement of air bags, and an A.E.D.
