Why does my smoke (or CO) alarm chirp?
Have you recently changed the batteries in your smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) alarm and it’s still chirping? Often times the chirping is an indication that the alarm has reach the end of its lifecycle and needs to be replaced. The life span of a CO alarm is generally 6-8 years, while the life span of a smoke alarm is generally 8-10 years. Most devices will indicate either their date of manufacture or their date of expiration right on the back. If your home has hardwired smoke and/or CO alarms, take the faulty device with you to the hardware store to ensure your replacement device has the same pin connections as the old one.
